Something Out Of Nothing

One of my all-time favorite Bible passages is found in John 6. These words have reminded me many times that Jesus can take nothing and turn it into something.
In verse 9, the doubting disciples bring a small boy’s lunch to Jesus, consisting of just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish, and He turns it into an enormous meal that feeds over 5000 people. (You can read the full account in verses 1-14.)
I’ve often wondered what it was like from that small boy’s perspective. Can you imagine? Jesus asks you for your lunch-box because He wants to use its contents to feed a mega-church sized congregation…. What would you be thinking? But the boy gave everything he had to Jesus and, even though it was small, He used it to feed thousands.
Some of us may not understand why God would want to use us. We believe we’re too small and insignificant… Listen, God uses the foolish things to put the wisdom of men to shame. God’s word says that Jesus’ disciples were not even educated men, but people could see clearly, they had been with Jesus!
God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong. So let him who boasts, boast only in the Lord! 1 Corinthians 1:27-31
Our faith must not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God!
